In a moment for India's legal and technological evolution, BITS Law School, a new-age legal institution established under the aegis of BITS Pilani, in collaboration with PanScience Innovations, has launched PALETTE Centre—a first-of-its-kind centre dedicated to integrating artificial intelligence and emerging technologies into legal education, practice, and judicial processes powered by Nyaay AI (a venture of PanScience Innovations).

The launch held at the India International Centre, New Delhi, in the presence of some of India's most eminent legal minds including Former Chief Justice of India, Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud, who was the Chief Guest and delivered the Presidential address, and Attorney-General of India, Shri R. Venkataramani who delivered his address as the guest of honour. Their presence signified endorsement of PALETTE Centre's mission to transform India's legal landscape through technology and innovation.

The launch was led by Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Bharadwaj, Founding Dean of BITS Law School, and Dr. Anshul V. Pandey, Founder & Chairman of PanScience Innovations. PALETTE—short for Professional Advancement in Law through Executive Training & Technical Education—will serve as a hub to build AI readiness across India's legal system.

It will offer AI tools and hands-on training in AI-powered legal research, case classification, document review, and courtroom automation, with a strong emphasis on capacity building for lawyers, judges, judicial staff, and law students.

“Lawyers today must not only interpret statutes but also understand how AI systems arrive at their recommendations” said Justice D.Y Chandrachud, Former Chief Justice of India and Chief Guest for the event, in his address.

A major highlight of the event was the live demonstration of Nyaay AI, a suite of tools developed by PanScience Innovations, featuring automated case summarisation, document classification, and predictive judgment analysis—technologies developed with direct applicability to India's Judicial system, and designed to revolutionise how AI is used across law firms, policy-making, and in-house legal departments.

Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Bharadwaj, Dean, BITS Law School, added, “Legacy firms, boutique practices, and in-house corporate legal teams are emerging as early adopters of AI in a deeply protocol-driven system. With High Court judges managing 5,000–15,000 cases and an average clearing time of five years, the shift to legal-tech is both timely and necessary.”

Dr. Anshul V. Pandey, Founder & Chairman, PanScience Innovations, remarked, “AI is not here to replace human judgment but to augment it. Through PALETTE Centre, we aim to make justice faster, smarter, and more accessible.”

Beyond training, PALETTE Centre aims to serve as a national and international thought hub. It will host global experts, conferences, and collaborative research initiatives focused on AI regulation, ethical frameworks, and legal innovation. Strategic collaborations with legal-tech firms and regulatory bodies will ensure that the centre aligns with global best practices and emerging global challenges.

Recognising that the future of law hinges on collective expertise, PALETTE Centre emphasises collaboration across all spheres of the legal ecosystem. This includes not only the judiciary but also law firms, general counsels, and academic institutions.

This collaborative spirit was reflected at the launch event, which was well-represented by leaders from these diverse sectors, highlighting the essential partnerships required for AI-driven legal advancement. By bringing together these stakeholders, the centre will work towards AI integration that is practical, ethically sound, and tailored to real-world challenges.

With this launch, BITS Law School and PanScience Innovations take a step toward reimagining how justice is taught, delivered, and experienced.
